Concentration Paper

I chose CSU because of its great history and it offers some of the best academics in Colorado. Also I believe it has the best business program around. Another reason for coming here was that I wanted to stay in state and I love Colorado. Fort Collins is a great college town and I am looking forward to experience it in the next four years.
The reason I am studying business is because it is a large area of interest to me. So far I do not know much about what business has to offer and I wish to know much more. A business degree opens up many great opportunities for me and I hope to earn those opportunities. Also I have heard many great things about receiving a major in business and I want to take a part in that.
In this class I know two people whom are Mckenna and Brady. I know Mckenna because I met her at orientation, and I know Brady because I met him on the first day of class.
I know Katya Sweeney because she is my academic advisor. Other than that I know a few faces but I have no recollection of their names.
As of now I do not have much interest in studying abroad but I still want to look into it to see what it would be like. The reasons I am not interested is because of the cost, it would be far away from those that I know, and it would take time to feel comfortable there. The reasons I have for still looking into it are that it would be a memorable experience, it would look good on work resumes, and it would build me as a person.
I have heard but do not read business week, fortune, Forbes, Denver post, or the wall street journal. I have not heard of the economist, BBC, or Forbes small business.
There are still many things I would like to know about what CSU offers. My biggest question is what are the best areas or clubs to be involved in? What does it take to be successful in majoring in business? How will I know which concentration portrays the skills I have? Where can I go with a business degree? Also what is the best way to meet people in college? These are the main questions I have pertaining to being in college.
The concentration that seems to interest me the most is marketing.
I believe I am good at doing the work needed in order to be successful, I am responsible in whatever I need to do, and I can always be trusted. The weaknesses I have include mathematics, public speaking, and some computer skills. I will do my best to work on these weaknesses in whatever way I can.
I do not find any interest in accounting due to the fact that math is not my strong point and if I was in this field of work I would struggle and not enjoy it. I wish to know more though about what other skills are required in accounting besides math skills. If in fact it includes some of the strengths I have I might consider it.
I have some interest in management because I believe that I can be decent in the area of leadership. It seems like an area of business that I would enjoy and why not managing anything is a great responsibility to have. I would like to know what the management world entails and if this was my concentration I would like to know what kind of jobs would be available.
Marketing is my greatest area of interest. It seems that if I landed a job in this area I would really enjoy it because you would meet many people, see new places, and discover success. I hope that when I learn more about this concentration it sparks my interest even more.
A concentration in computer information systems definitely does not pertain to my interests. This would be because I lack in computer skills and I would not enjoy working on a computer all day. I cannot say much more because I do not know much about this concentration and have not heard anything about it.
Finance sounds like a good field to be a part of but I am not sure if I would succeed in it. I have little interest in it but I wish to know much more and just what the basics of it include. I will leave it as a possibility though as I obtain some more information about it.
Real Estate seems that it would be my second best option. I am sure that I would enjoy this field of work and be successful. I would like to know some of the skills required to work in real estate. Also I would like to know the possibilities in this concentration.
The four letters that describe me are E, S, F, and J. I am slightly extraverted, sensing, and judging. Also I am moderately feeling.
The careers that the website said i would be interested in were home economics, teaching, nursing, administrator, child care, family practice physician, clergy, office manger, counselor, accountant, and an administrative assistant.
After taking this self assessment I somewhat agree with the personalities of the jobs they had given me. I know that I am usually concerned with the needs of others and that I am always willing to help someone. Also it said that I was a caregiver and this is also true. I may have the personalities for the jobs that it recommended but personally the jobs were not in my interest.
For the most part the assessment matched what I think of myself. The main traits of myself are that I like being secure, I enjoy helping the needs of others, and overall I am a down to earth kind of person. It was also true in that I can be trusted in certain situations, and I am an easily approachable person.
This did not help me out too much in picking the right concentration for me. I would still like to know what each concentration entails before I relate my traits and skills to them. Through doing this it made more clear who I was as a person and what kind of skills I have and how I could use them.

My Why Factor

I am in college to get an education, build myself to be a better more efficient person, and to help me succeed in whatever challenges in life I face. The reason I wake up every day and try my best to be a productive student is that I want to achieve success in whatever way that is possible. The best way to do this is to go to my classes and do the work needed. My motivation for being in college is to better my life, meet new people, and build a strong support for the rest of my life.
